The entrance to the Temple of Khons. It is on the south side of the temple complex, and can be reached from the hypostyle hall by taking a winding paved path, through an area similar to the open air museum. It is a complete temple within a temple, with columned halls, separate side chapels and its own avenue of sphinxes. It was started by Rameses III, and finished by his successors. When I visited it in November 2005, I was the only visitor and on leaving, I met two more. I can't understand why more people do not visit the more out of the way areas at Karnak, and just, sheeplike follow tour guides - they are missing out on so much.

The gateway of Euterges is aligned with the temple. A highly decorated Ptolemaic stone gateway in the fairly well restored mud brick wall which surrounds the entire Karnak complex.
Above and left - the first court of the temple, with a fairly impressive colonnade. Below - the hypostyle hall.
There are several well preserved side chapels, which are completely roofed, and are pitch black! They also have bats roosting in them, and when the flash fires, they start fluttering around. Quite an eerie experience.
