In January 2004, the mummy of Rameses I was returned to Luxor, and placed in the new wing of the museum. It lies in a darkened room, and there is definitely a respectful hush from the visitors. In a similar room, lies the mummy of Ahmose, the Pharoah who drove the Hyksos from Egypt.

Left - a superb head of a cow, sacred to Hathor.

Above - one of Tutankhamen's war chariots. The new extension's main theme is warfare in ancient Egypt.

The separate room holding the recently discovered statues. To the right is a detail of the statue of Hathor.

There is so much to see in Luxor museum, that despite the recent increase in admission prices, it is THE must-see place in the town of Luxor.
