There is still a place for black & white photography. Here, Sue thought she could capture more of the atmosphere with black and white than colour. I'd have to agree as colour tends to sometimes overpower a subject. Also, with the exception of the few signs of modern life, these pictures do have a timeless quality.
Living is hard on the West Bank - water has to be carried from communal standpipes. Donkeys work harder than 'civilised' Westerners think fit, but without them, the poor would have no form of transport.
The well is also a gathering place for gossip, and just generally hanging out.
See if you agree with Sue's point about black & white images being more powerful than colour.

When we arrived, the palm trees were being 'pruned'. The large fronds were cut off at the trunk, and dropped to the ground, where the lower leaves were stripped, leaving about 3-4 feet of frond. These are then dried, and used as roofing.
