Egypt is rightly famous for the Pyramids, but for me, its crowning glory are the temples. Over the years, we have visited the majority of the well-known ones, as well as one or two that appear to be rarely visited by tourists. This, I think, is due to the narrow-minded attitude of the tour companies, who consider that a visit to the West bank comprises the Colossi of Memnon, the Valleys of the Kings and Queens and the temple of Hatshepsut.
There is much more to see than that, and the best way to see the temples of Egypt is to take a taxi, and pay the driver by the day. You may need to travel in a convoy, but at least you should be able to spend as much time as you want where YOU want, and not where the tour companies think you should want!
